With her mum Trina released from hospital and now working with Nana at the local bingo hall, Bethan finds herself free to experience the joys of teenage life. At school Bethan is full of herself as she tries to make a good impression on new girl Cam who she has a crush on. However, Bethan's home life is far from perfect as she becomes ever more combative with her abusive father, Dilwyn.

On her return home, Bethan meets the man Trina has been having an affair with, Perry. Despite her reservations, Bethan understands why her mum (Jo Hartley) believes they can both have a better future if she can find a way to be with Perry.
