Dos episodios componen la serie. Día y Noche. Momentos aparentemente opuestos, marcados por la posición del Sol. Algunos animales prefieren cazar de noche, otros buscar alimento durante el día. Son diferentes opciones, diferentes alternativas ecológicas y evolución natural, pero una cosa es explicarlo y otra distinta es verlo y con este espíritu la BBC ha creado 24 horas en la Tierra.
El documental recorre el Planeta, de un extremo a otro, para mostrar el comportamiento de diferentes animales, en el mismo momento de tiempo: los murciélagos que revolotean con el anochecer en un extremo del planeta conviven con los intentos de cortejo y apareamiento de un joven dragón de mar. Así es la Tierra.
