Todo comienza cuando los Powell, una familia americana corriente, sobreviven milagrosamente a un accidente de avión cerca del Amazonas. Al regresar del viaje descubrirán que su vida ha cambiado por completo cuando comienzan a manifestarse sus superpoderes. Jim, el padre es un agente de policía que encontrará en su fuerza sobrehumana la herramienta perfecta para ayudar a los ciudadanos. Es capaz de atrapar balas y saltar desde edificios altos. Stephanie su mujer, es una exitosa científica que de repente puede correr a la velocidad de la luz. Por otra parte Daphne, la hija mayor, comienza a escuchar los pensamientos de todos los que le rodean. Y el hijo pequeño, JJ será el último en descubrir que es capaz de resolver fácil y rápidamente ecuaciones matemáticas, así que podrá despedirse al fin de sus problemas para aprobar en el instituto. Stephanie investiga entusiasmada las razones científicas de sus cualidades, Jim usa sus poderes para luchar contra el crimen y conoce a otro hombre que también parece poseer superpoderes. A Daphne le preocupa su relación con su novio y por medio de sus dotes telepáticas descubre que éste le es infiel. Estos poderes extraordinarios unirán más que nunca a los Powell aunque también traerán nuevos problemas, ya que deberán aprender a vivir con las ventajas e inconvenientes de una familia poco corriente.

Un matrimonio increíble
George ayuda a Jim a medir sus limitaciones, mientras Katie la compañera de trabajo de Stephanie, intentará que le responda a las mil preguntas que tiene a cerca de sus poderes. Jim y Stephanie tras haber puesto sus vidas en peligro usando sin control sus poderes, se prometen no volver a utilizarlos hasta no conocerlos mejor. Pero pronto romperán en secreto su acuerdo por diferentes motivos. Stephanie con la intención de analizar el extraño fenómeno que hizo que su familia cambiara, utilizará su supervelocidad para obtener rápidamente una muestra de agua del lago donde se estrellaron. Y Jim se pondrá en peligro para proteger a personas desconocidas. Pero cuando George es tomado como rehén durante el atraco a un banco, Stephanie comprende la situación y animará a Jim para que ayude a su amigo. Aunque este rescate, complicará la situación para Jim ya que su jefa, la inspectora Cho lo descubre en el lugar del atraco. Esta vez no podrá evitar tener que darle alguna explicación, tendrá que confesarle sus poderes, pero la inspectora no será la única que escuche este secreto. Por otro lado, Daphne aprende a controlar la telepatía y JJ comienza a sacar buenas notas en matemáticas, para sorpresa de todos. De momento el profesor sospecha que ha copiado, por eso JJ decide meter algún fallo para sacar notas algo más bajas.

Un anillo increíble
Durante un banquete de boda de una amiga de la familia Powell unos atracadores armados irrumpen y obligan a los invitados a entregar sus carteras y joyas, entre ellas el anillo de boda de Stephanie. Tras vivir esta injusticia y decididos a recuperar el anillo, Jim y George deciden asistir a otras bodas para interceptar a los ladrones para que sean detenidos. Aunque como Jim aun no maneja a la perfección sus poderes, se pondrá en riesgo más de una vez. Por otro lado, la junta aprueba financiar la investigación de Stephanie. Pero para llevarla a cabo, debe someterse a un examen físico que podría revelar sus poderes secretos. Y Daphne tiene su propio frente abierto, ya que le cuesta cada vez más mantener en secreto sus poderes. Quiere contárselo a Megan una de sus mejores amigas, pero sus padres intentarán evitarlo ya que temen que esta declaración dificultará aún más la situación y pondría en peligro a la familia. Entretanto, JJ le pide por primera vez a su hermana que le lea el pensamiento a la chica que le gusta.

Mientras tanto, cuando el amigo Trent Stafford y sus padres son víctimas de un robo en su propia vivienda, Daphne utiliza sus habilidades para ayudar a Jim a perseguir a los responsables del acto violento.
