After Huo Zhongren, the registrar of Muxi City, goes missing in the palace, his daughter, Huo Xiangjiu, infiltrates the palace as a maid to investigate. Amid inexplicable incidents one after another, she discovers that Feng Mochen, a powerful and favored court official, is actually a thousand-year-old fox spirit, and their souls even swap by accident.
