Le temple d'Angkor Vat, au Cambodge, est l'œuvre de l'empereur khmer Suryavarman II qui l'a fait construire au XIIe siècle en l'honneur du dieu Vishnu. Souverain ambitieux et conquérant, il décide de faire bâtir un site grandiose au milieu de la jungle. À l'époque, Angkor est l'une des villes les plus peuplées et prospères du monde. Le chantier emploie un grand nombre d'ouvriers qui doivent transporter les blocs de grès sur 40 kilomètres. Récit de la construction du plus grand temple du site d'Angkor qui a été découvert au XIXe siècle par l'explorateur français Henri Mouhot.
