Tuna

Six Brits tackle Indonesia's tuna industry in Bitung on the island of Sulawesi. In the UK, we consume over a billion tins of tuna a year and Bitung's canneries supply to many British supermarkets and sandwich chains. The Brits live with tuna workers in basic communities, endure 90-degree heat in the canneries and struggle with the harsh realities of life on a traditional wooden tuna boat in the western Pacific. The extreme conditions affect them all in many different ways, as do the hand to mouth existence of the workers they live with.

Prawn

The Brits arrive in Kalimantan, Indonesia to live and work alongside the workers in the prawn industry. Their home is a shack in the jungle with no beds, no TV and no running water and dinner is what you can catch. Instead of fishing for prawns in the ocean, the Brits are surprised to find themselves waist deep in mud working on a prawn farm. For these six young consumers, biting into a prawn mayo sandwich will never be the same again, but the group is given a glimmer of hope with the arrival of a British farmer to join their team.

Rice

Thailand is the biggest exporter of rice to the west and practically all the jasmine rice we eat in the UK comes from there. But the group are surprised at the high price being paid by the rice-growing communities forced apart from their families because of our high demand for such a cheap staple food. The heavy workload catches up with Josh, who is sent to hospital with a serious infection picked up in the mud of the rice fields. Manos must come face-to-face with the killing of his favourite food, before the group follow the migrant workers from the open spaces of the countryside to the biggest slum in Thailand, to find alternative ways to earn a living.
