In the after war years from France to motherland returns a soldier with a name Sergei. Giselle his french love is moving with him too. For Giselle it is hard to get used to the lifestyle of a soviet village but she is trying as hard as she can because of her feelings for him. But on the other hand Sergei is a popular man in the village. His neighbour Klavdia is also in love with him and she is trying to destroy the marriage in any possible way.
