Un giovane apprendista mago di 10 anni, Negi Springfield, originario del Galles, a conclusione del suo primo ciclo di studi, è inviato a compiere il suo apprendistato in Giappone col ruolo di insegnante d'inglese all'Istituto Femminile Mahora. La classe di scuola media che gli viene assegnata, anche se inizialmente solo in maniera provvisoria, è la 2°A, composta da trentuno ragazze.
Per quanto debba mantenere il segreto sul fatto di essere un mago, Negi viene immediatamente scoperto da una delle sue alunne, Asuna Kagurazaka. La ragazza inizialmente considera antipatico Negi, a causa della sua particolare abilità di metterla spesso in imbarazzo davanti alla sua classe o davanti al precedente professore, Takamichi T. Takahata, del quale la ragazza è innamorata.
La 2°A vede Negi inizialmente solo come un ragazzino carino con cui divertirsi piuttosto che come il loro professore o mentore e sarà quindi lui a doversi guadagnare il rispetto delle sue alunne nel corso del tempo. (fonte Wikipedia)
