La serie tratta delle avventure di Rocky, una marmotta americana maschio, e della sua compagna Polly, abitanti della Foresta Verde. In ogni episodio interagiscono e fanno la conoscenza con molti altri personaggi, che entreranno a far parte delle loro vite quotidiane, ed insieme tali creature collaborano per far fronte ai diversi pericoli della foresta, come calamità naturali, l'intervento dell'uomo, o le donnole e volpi predatrici.
