Hank Galliston è l'editore in capo del Modern Skeptic e ha trascorso la sua vita a smascherare leggende metropolitane e finte cospirazioni. Adesso Hank si ritrova al centro di una massiccia e intricata rete di misteri in seguito al rapimento di sua moglie Laila per mano di un terrorista internazionale noto come White Vincent. Ad aiutarlo nelle ricerche ci sono l'Agente dell'FBI Rebecca Riley e i redattori del Modern Skeptic, Arron e Rachel.

Hank e Beck si trovano faccia a faccia con White Vincent nella tundra Canadese e Hank si trova con più domande che risposte, non soltanto in merito a sua moglie ma anche alla sua stessa esistenza, la sua ricerca del prossimo orologio.
