Adaptación de una obra de la autora inglesa Anne Brontë. Tras muchos años de abandono, a la destartalada y ruinosa mansión de Wildfell Hall va a vivir una misteriosa mujer que tiene un hijo pequeño. Su carácter retraído y poco sociable, sus extravagantes opiniones y su extraña belleza, provocan entre los vecinos toda clase de sospechas, pero también la rendida admiración de un joven e impetuoso agricultor.
