La primera serie también protagonizada por Elizabeth McGovern como su esposa Margarita y Martin Shaw como el archirrival de la pimpinela, Paul Chauvelin. Robespierre fue interpretado por Ronan Vibert. Fue filmada en la República Checa y musicalizada por el compositor checo, Michal Pavlíček.
