Las vidas de una pequeña comunidad de vecinos cambian para siempre cuando el pequeño Callum Reid desaparece sin dejar rastro en el verano de 2008. Cinco años después, durante unas obras, el cuerpo del niño es descubierto en los jardines comunitarios y la policía empieza una investigación para esclarecer su muerte. La encargada de dirigir al equipo será la veterana Maggie Brand, quien ya investigó su desaparición en el pasado. Navegando entre dos líneas temporales, 2008 y el presente, Debbie O’Malley hace gala de un uso excepcional del flashback.
