It's the first week of the comedy workshop. We are introduced to three different groups of students in prison: women, men, and LGBT+. Comedian SofÄ‚Âa Niño de Rivera is nervous, and so are the inmates, as they take their first crack at comedy. While we learn about the stand-up basics and set goals, we witness a male friendship that has helped two inmates survive behind bars.

With five weeks to go until the final show, the students begin to improve their routines. SofÄ‚Âa notices lots of anxiety and helps the students deal with their stage fright.
