Creepy Crawlers Everywhere

Program host Peter Schriemer shows kids how to look for animals and insects in their own backyard. He explores three zones: the Ground Zone, House Zone, and Tree Zone. Each zone provides a rich learning experience for critter exploration. The Ground zone is the perfect hiding place for such critters as click beetles and slugs. After a quick beetle race facilitated by younger sister Emily, Peter is off to the House zone, where he meets a tree frog capable of changing color and a jumping spider, that he's careful not to touch. The final stop on this backyard safari ends with the Tree zone, and what more appropriate critter to find there but a walking stick.

Season of Change

Fall into this next episode of Critter Quest as Program host Peter Schriemer explores the habitats of red squirrels, white tail deer, raptors, turtles and other species to teach children about hibernation, migration and other classic autumn animal/insect and plant behaviors. There are three behavioral patterns that occur in animals during the fall: Foraging, Hibernation or Migration. Tree Squirrels and white tail deer forage during the fall so they can live off their stored fat in the winter while the painted turtle and the wooly bear caterpillar hibernate all winter long. To track different types of birds and their migration, Peter creates a daily sighting log and adds his up-close encounter with the red tail hawk and the owl to his diary.
